Case Study: Rapid 200 Tonne Corn Cob Supply to Nishat Mills Using Open Trollies

Introduction

When Nishat Mills urgently required 200 tonnes of corn cob for their boilers, Babar Aziz Balers rose to the challenge—despite relying on third-party trollies and open transport. In just 4 days, we coordinated ten 10-wheeler trollies to source, pack, and deliver over half-a-million mann of biomass from remote collection points, proving that speed, trust, and clear processes can overcome any logistical hurdle.

Client Challenge

      • Open-Load Logistics: Unlike our typical baled shipments, this order was loose cargo, risking spillage, moisture damage, and load variability.

      • Rural Sourcing: Raw material sites—Jhulkey, Allahabad, Dhing Shah, Kelo, Talwandi, and Hujra Shah Muqeem—lie off the motorway, requiring local road navigation and night-time delivery windows.

    Our Solution

        1. Third-Party Vendor Network
              • Engaged ten reliable local trolley owners, paid in advance, and built rapport through daily site visits and on-the-spot payments.

          1. Quality Assurance & Accountability
                • Vendors bore responsibility for quality: payment was strictly for the weight delivered to the mill, incentivizing them to supply clean, dry corn cob.

            1. Route & Schedule Planning
                  • Used the Kasur–Depalpur local road network, with deliveries after 11 PM (standard for trollies in Lahore).

                  • Coordinated via direct calls to drivers and to our contacts at Nishat (Mr. Amir Saeed, Mr. Kashif Naeem, Mr. Azeem) to ensure each load was promptly processed.

              1. Trip-By-Trip Arrangement
                    • Each trolley made one trip per night. Across three nights, ten trollies completed 10 trips—totaling 200 tonnes.

              Results & Lessons Learned

                  • On-Time Delivery: All 200 tonnes arrived within the 4-day window, despite daily price fluctuations.

                  • Minimal Spillage: Achieved a 95% yield, thanks to careful packing and vendor accountability.

                  • Strong Vendor Partnerships: Because payments were prompt and transparent, vendors remained cooperative and reliable.

                  • Key Takeaway: Always maintain a buffer stock and monitor price trends—our next order (1,000 tonnes) will leverage this insight to optimize cost and speed.

                Future Outlook

Building on this success, Babar Aziz Balers plans to:

                    • Scale open-load operations to 1,000 tonnes, engaging 100+ trollies.

                    • Invest in a dedicated fleet of 10-wheeler trollies for faster motorway access.

                    • Develop covered storage “barracks” to protect future loose-load biomass and ensure year-round quality.
